HonFest is a unique celebration of all things "Bawlmer." is a celebration that pays homage to the neighborhoods, the language and the people of Baltimore. Over 30,000 people flocked to last year.
The highlight of the day is the crowning of Baltimore’s Best Hon. What is a Hon? The term Hon is actually a friendly Baltimore greeting and comes from the word honey. However, the women who vie to become Baltimore’s Best Hon are a vision of the sixties-era women with beehive hairdos, blue-eye-shadow, spandex pants and something, anything with leopard print! During HonFest you too can get your own beehive in our Glamour Lounge, listen to talented local musicians, and check out the work of local artists, while you stroll downy Avenue?
This nationally recognized festival covers four city blocks on 36th Street (The Avenue) in the neighborhood of Hampden. Hampden is a revered old-style Baltimore neighborhood, filled with quirky shops, quaint restaurants and endearing residents. HonFest gives local storeowners the opportunity to spill-out onto the sidewalk and showcase their wares. HonFest is a favorite destination for young and old, tourist and resident.
The Baltimore's Best Hon Contest began in 1994 and quickly grew into its own festival, aptly named HonFest. Denise Whiting, owner of Cafe Hon & HON Bar, created both the contest and the festival. Cafe Hon has become a Baltimore’s landmark.

Welcome to the 61st Annual Howard County Fair
We strive to maintain an American tradition of good, wholesome, safe, and enlightening fun for all ages.
The 4-H youth highlight our fair with their various livestock exhibits, home art entries, public speaking and
educational demonstrations. We have continued with our always popular Pretty Baby Contest, Talent Show,
and Cow Milking Contest, while adding new favorites such as rocketry, computers and the Showmanship Challenge.
Throughout the week are many diversified activities for all to enjoy. Whether you come early in the morning or
late at night, we’ve got it all. Arrive early and watch the exhibitors tend to their early morning chores of feeding and
caring for their animal projects.Stay late and watch the fair come alive with the lights of the giant Ferris wheel
and the musical entertainment from the stage area. The fair hosts daily horse shows, pony rides, tractor pulls, and
livestock competitions. If it’s thrilling entertainment and rides you seek, a midway with clean safe rides and games,
and bingo awaits you. Our commercial exhibits, home arts demonstrations, and health awareness
exhibits are always well attended. Watch in amazement as our chain saw carver demonstrates his skill in carving.
Pick out your favorite and bid on it at the auction on closing day. Perhaps one of our most talked about and,
anticipated activity is the Animal Petting Zoo. Not just for the young but the young at heart.
Dive into a pile of fresh shelled corn, pet a newborn baby calf, and watch as baby chicks emerge from their shells.
Learn all about the animals and their individual need from our Down on The Farm volunteers.
It’s an educational experience you surely won’t forget. The success of the fair can be attributed to many factors;
the ongoing improvements of the grounds and buildings, our numerous hard working volunteers, 4-H youth, their
leaders and parents and dedicated exhibitors. Without these, the fair could not be possible.
So whether you come just for the day or the entire week, enjoy the fair. It truly is a premier family event.

COMMUNITY SQUARE ~ FREE

The final winner enters the Kidbuck$ chamber and grabs as many “Kidbucks” as possible, as they swirl about the chamber. Catch the fun, excitement and prizes! If you would like to be a contestant on the show, you must arrive 5 – 10 minutes prior to show time and be between the ages of 3 – 15 years old to be eligible! You could be the big winner!
HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED
Nine contestants between the ages of three and fifteen are chosen from the audience by a raffle system. The contestants are divided into three groups based on their size and physical ability. Each group of three contestants play wild and crazy games to determine a winner. The winner of each heat moves into the winners circle to await the final round and the runners up all receive a prize.
When all three semi finalists have been determined, the final round is played. In this round the semifinalists “spin to win” on the winners wheel. Age and size give no one an advantage. Only lady luck knows who will win this round! The one who spins the highest number is the grand champion and enters the money chamber where they have 30 seconds to grab as many Kindbuck$ as they can as they swirl about the chamber. The Kidbuck$ are redeemed for prizes based on the number of bucks collected. Additionally at the end of the show, one more ball from the raffle machine is drawn and the person that is holding that ticket wins a prize as well.

Riverside Winefest at Sotterley
October 3rd & 4th, 2009
Noon ~ 6:00 pm
Come to the place where wine flows freely, music is jamming, kids are playing, artists are selling, food is scrumptious, and everyone is having a blast! Sotterley Plantation will "Celebrate the Best of Maryland in a Breathtaking Setting" at the Riverside WineFest at Sotterley 2009. For two days, guests will have the chance to taste the offerings of 17 highly acclaimed Maryland wineries (with no tasting tickets). For those who have always wanted to learn about wine making and wine testing, you will enjoy the informative demonstrations and exhibits. Promoting goods from our local farming community and introducing fine local chefs, visit the So. Maryland, So Good tent and enjoy the full schedule of events. Hungry? Dash over to the food vendors for crab cakes, fried oysters, pit-roasted meats, stuffed ham, wraps, freshly made ice-cream and more. There is no such thing as a bored child here at Sotterley, as we offer free face painting and colonial games. Ready to dance? Go for it! Move and groove to a spectrum of music - from Jazz to1950's classics to Rock & Roll to International Folk. Let's talk Art - not crafts, but ART. Artists from The Color & Light Society will be painting, displaying, and selling their treasures in the Customs Warehouse. Down on the field, make a point of supporting other Maryland Artists, many of whom sell their creations nationally and internationally. As an added bonus, 98.3 Star FM celebs T-bone & Heather will be here with t-shirts and prizes for the crowd on Saturday from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
NEW for 2009: Promising to make this year's event even better, we will have an Antique Show in the barn with experienced local antique dealers selling favorites from days gone by. Since we aim to please, diehard football fans will be able to watch the Washington Redskins play (and beat) the Buccaneers on Sunday at 1 p.m. down on the field on a big screen television.

Welcome to another season of the Maryland Renaissance Festival! There is so much to see that it's impossible to do everything in one visit. There's something for everyone in Revel Grove.
The village is comprised of pubs, stages, food booths and more than 130 craft shops. Eat, drink, wander through the village and enjoy the atmosphere.
The entertainment schedule (available soon) shows a master grid of the shows and performances on the main staging areas. In addition to the stage shows, there are musical and theatrical performances that take place in the pathways. There's also a free juggling school near the Royal Stage (children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult), and the Village Stocks where you can lock up your loved ones.
Villagers and courtiers of King Henry VIII populate Revel Grove. Character interaction with patrons is the cornerstone of a visit to the Renaissance Festival. Enjoy the close-up entertainment from a strolling magician, mingle with a mime, or listen to court gossip from a noble Lady - you're part of the show at Revel Grove. Our performers all wear a ribboned badge, to distinguish them from costumed patrons.
